Put It On the Altar

Such a powerful and intense New Moon. Do you feel it?

Lena Stevens from The Power Path said this about today’s energy:

This could be a challenging day as there are opposing influences that can either inspire you to continue shedding the old and refining your intentions, or take you into a place of stubbornness, resistance and feeling disempowered by what you experience as a stuck place. It is important to use the New Moon energy to take action even if it is just taking a walk or moving your body in some way. If you are seeking clarity and answers that are not yet tangible, focus on something that is. If all else fails, focus on the small tasks and baby steps. Worries and anxiety around issues out of your control will not serve you. Focus on something that you can change and take some time for self-care.

I have taken so much action today and really done so many things. So, the second I send this out to all of you lovely people, I’m disconnecting, putting on my favorite face mask and catching up on some Netflix. I hope you make time to rest and recharge - it’s such an integral part of living a life in alignment and flow.

Okay, so today I want to share with you all that I know about creating a SACRED ALTAR. First thing’s first - this is NOT religious. Not for me, at all. So, if this is tripping up your religion antenna, it’s okay to just relax. We’re not dealing with witchcraft, or Catholicism, or anything for that matter and it’s not going to interfere with your religion in any way. And if you aren’t able to shift your perception then this blog isn’t for you.

The purpose of an altar is to help you focus - it’s a place of devotion. Physically it can be a small table or shelf, a windowsill, or a little corner - any place you can physically create a little space for yourself that will be undisturbed by others and easy to tend to.

For example, my altar in Los Angeles is my bedside table. Right now it has a white marble statue of Lakshmi Ma on it, some fresh flowers, a few crystals, a bell, an affirmation, my mala beads and a small brass Ganesha. In Miami, my altar is larger and it takes up an entire corner of my extra room. It’s a major part of my living space, but that’s not always possible, and not necessary. In the past I’ve had my altar on a bookshelf, in one apartment it was on a windowsill, basically, a corner will do.

There aren’t any real rules when creating an altar - it’s just a place that should have meaning for you. It’s a place to bring focus to your heart’s desires. To place things on that you might need to release or call in - depending on the day. It’s a place of introspection and connecting with your higher self. It’s a space for transformation, clarity and magic.

Best practices:

  • Keep your altar clean (don’t let it get dusty)

  • Maintain the space - keep it fresh and relevant to your life

  • Give it you attention every day by meditating there, or praying, or lighting a candle, etc.

  • Some ideas of things you might want to place on your altar:

    • Sacred Objects like crystals, stones, jewelry

    • Fresh seasonal flowers

    • Candles + Matches

    • Photographs

    • Intentions

    • Affirmations or Afformations

    • Tarot Cards

    • Herbs to burn like White Sage, Palo Santo, Angelica, Rose…

    • Uplifting Spray

    • A Bell

    • Essential Oils

Everything on your altar needs to be essential and have a purpose. Your altar must feel intentional and purposeful - containing physical representations of your heart’s true desires. It’s a place to create your life like a blank canvas. Make this space indicative of what you wish to call into your reality.

An abundance altar might include the following:

  • Money - bills or shiny coins

  • Anything yellow - like fresh yellow Marigolds

  • Affirmations like this one from Louise Hay, “I am open and receptive to all the good and abundance in the Universe and Thank You life!”

  • A statue of Lakshmi Ma

A love altar might include the following:

  • Dry organic pink Rose buds for burning

  • A Rose Quartz crystal

  • Photos or a small vision board of couples you feel inspired by

  • Affirmations like this one from Louise Hay: “I now deserve love, romance and joy - and all the good that life has to offer me.”

I hope this gets your creativity flowing and inspires you to create an altar if you don’t have one. They are powerful and quite grounding. If you have any questions please ask in the comments below and I’ll answer. Happy new moon. Enjoy!
