Wednesday Series • Amanda Gibby Peters • Simple Shui

I had the pleasure of chatting with Amanda Gibby Peters last Wednesday and as always, we fell into the best conversation. In honor of the Spring Equinox, we talked about SPRING CLEANING and Amanda explained that it’s an agreeable time to spruce your home. Watch our convo to get some fresh ideas about how to Feng Shui your home. And if you’re like me and a checklist is reassuring, here are Amanda’s top 3 suggestions to start your spring cleaning:

  • at the FRONT DOOR, Amanda has a quick routine – and it’s one she employs through the year:

️she clears everything off the porch, and gives the space a good sweeping

️the door, its handle and hardware all get a sudsy scrubbing and wipe down (think of this like polishing yourself up for new possibilities and potential!)

️if the doormat is looking tired, this is the time of year to replace it

weather permitting, Amanda likes to add something bright and colorful to her door (my mom, Amanda, and I all have handmade wreaths from Adriane at Branch and Bloom)

  • for the BEDROOM, Amanda likes to launder everything – like she does when it’s “go back to school” season

so wash all the bedding, pillows included

give the mattress its own zhuzh with some baking soda and a quick vacuum

pull the bed out from the wall and vacuums that space well

dust the fan, tops of your framed art, and the headboard

  • in the KITCHEN, it’s almost a full-day affair. the good news? do it now, and you’re good for a whole year!

Amanda suggests taking everything out of the cupboards and wiping them down (she usually mixes in a little orange or rosemary oil)

her family dismantles the fridge, washing all the shelving, drawers and cubbies. a little water here does the trick nicely!

the pantry and spice cabinet get updated – as in anything expired gets tossed

they commence the whole cleanse with a salty wipe down to remove any lingering chi. all you need is a damp cloth, natural rock salt, and a little elbow grease. dip your cloth into the salt, and wipe down everything. (this tip comes straight from her book — Simple Shui for Every Day!)

Amanda is teaching a group Feng Shui consult and registration closes this week. Her testimonials are WOW and she invites magic into the mundane. If you’d like to sign up, contact her and she will extend her early bird pricing to our SMUDGED community.

See you next with my dear friend, actor, writer, and producer Kathreen Khavari.
